Note
Muslim festivals are timed according to local sightings of various phases of the moon and the dates given above are approximations. During the lunar month of Ramadan that precedes Eid al-Fitr, Muslims fast during the day and feast at night and normal business patterns may be interrupted. Many restaurants are closed during the day and there may be restrictions on smoking and drinking. Some disruption may continue into Eid al-Fitr itself. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha may last anything from two to 10 days, depending on the region.

UAE private sector holiday on July 31 to mark Isra Wal Meraj

Abu Dhabi: The private sector in the UAE will get a one-day holiday on Thursday, July 31, to mark Isra Wal Meraj - Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) ascension to heaven - it was announced on Sunday.
According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Labour, private sector employees will get a holiday on Thursday, July 31, to celebrate the glorious occasion.
The ministry congratulated President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, and the UAE government and people on the occasion.
The ministry also congratulated the Arab and Muslim nations on the glorious occasion.
kindly note that the Islamic New Year for 2009 is wrong, it falls in December because this year's Islamic New Year might be on the 28th or 29th Decemeber if I'm not mistaken.
Yes, it is correct 2009 Islamic new year falls on December 29, 2008 and sind it is in 2008 it is considered as part of the 2008 holidays..
Just for everybodys' info. Islamic New Year for 2009 might fall on either 17th or 18th of December.
