Filipina attacked in Wafi Mall critical

Dubai: A Filipina and her Nepali partner, who stabbed her before stabbing himself while she was on duty in a beauty salon at Wafi Mall, are currently undergoing treatments for severe injuries at a Dubai hospital, a senior police source confirmed.

Late on Thursday evening, Gulf News reported on an attack when a Filipina, in her thirties, was stabbed by a man in Wafi Mall, Dubai. Large bloodstains were spotted on the first floor - where the woman works - and few more blood stains on the second floor close to the escalator.

The ambulance and police units who were present at the scene cordoned off the areas at the first and second floors with the assistance of the mall security officials.

“The Nepali man, in his thirties, came to the work place of the Filipina and asked for her. When he saw her he stabbed her in the stomach and injured another older Nepali woman working in the salon when she intervened in an attempt to prevent the attack. The man collapsed on the floor after stabbing himself in the stomach just outside the salon in an attempt to commit suicide,” a police source told Gulf News.

The Nepali woman sustained minor to moderate injuries and was later released from the hospital while the Filipina and the suspect sustained severe injuries.

“There was a lot of blood near the beauty salon and while they were carrying the man and the woman…I saw the sheets covered in blood,” said an eyewitness.

According to the police source, the older Nepali woman ran from the salon to the second floor in an attempt to seek rescue, which is why blood was spotted on the second floor as well.

"I work at a restaurant on the third floor while she works in the first floor. She is a regular customer at our restaurant and it was shocking to see her white uniform covered in blood. She fainted in the second floor as she had fled from the first floor where she was stabbed," said an eyewitness.

The Police source said the Nepali man and the Filipina were in a relationship, but are still investigating the cause of the attack.

“We are still investigating the matter and it’s still early to establish the cause of the attack especially when both the victim and the suspect are in a critical condition,” he said.
